Lord Howe Island Board has an opportunity for a Field Supervisor to work as part of the team based locally to contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, built assets and provision of services to the community and visitors to beautiful Lord Howe Island.
This is an exciting opportunity to supervise a dedicated team in preserving the unique environment of Lord Howe Island. As a Field Supervisor within the Environmental Unit, you will supervise Field Officers, contractors, and volunteers to deliver vital conservation and maintenance programs. Your work will include constructing and maintaining tracks, fences, and infrastructure, managing invasive species, and supporting threatened species recovery efforts - all while ensuring the Island’s World Heritage values remain protected.
You will play a key role in planning, coordinating, and overseeing environmental projects, ensuring they are completed safely, efficiently, and within budget. Additionally, this role requires becoming an Authorised Officer under the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015 and Lord Howe Island Regulations 2014. About you
You are a passionate and experienced supervisor with a strong background in conservation and environmental management. You have proven expertise in supervising field teams and managing diverse environmental projects, thriving in dynamic outdoor environments. Your ability to lead by example and foster collaboration among Field Officers, contractors, and volunteers ensures that conservation efforts are carried out efficiently and effectively.
You are driven by a commitment to preserving Lord Howe Island’s unique natural heritage and have a strong understanding of workplace health and safety and environmental regulations. Your hands-on experience in construction, asset maintenance, pest control, and species recovery makes you a reliable and resourceful team supervisor, capable of adapting to the island’s ever-changing conditions.
You possess excellent organisational skills and can prioritise tasks to meet deadlines while managing budgets and resources effectively. Your ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, ensures smooth coordination and accurate record-keeping. Whether operating equipment or collecting data, you approach each task with attention to detail and dedication.
Essential requirements
- Current Australian Driver Licence
- Demonstrated well-developed supervisory and team leadership skills for the implementation of field and operational activities, including the construction and maintenance of walking tracks, fences, revegetation sites and park facilities, and pest plant and animal control and monitoring.
- Relevant SafeWork NSW certification, ability and experience in the operation of machinery, plant and equipment for maintenance/construction work, including Farm Chemical Users certificate and chainsaws to basic tree felling standard.

The position holder will be required to meet the requirements of a pre-employment medical with a clearance to undertake the fitness test to a moderate level, and task based physical assessment to undertake this role.
