Applications open for Senior Biosecurity Officer
Lord Howe Island Board has an opportunity for a Senior Biosecurity Officer to play a key role in protecting the Lord Howe Island landscape through the implementation of the Lord Howe Island Board’s biosecurity strategy.
Leading a small team, you will be responsible for carrying out any operations required to minimise and mitigate biosecurity risks to Lord Howe Island.
Your duties will include overseeing field operations and biosecurity field officers, managing the training, health and welfare of biosecurity detection dogs and conducting biosecurity surveillance and investigative duties.
While overseeing these operations you will also inform operational decision making through the monitoring and assessment of potential biosecurity threats along with the provision of accurate data and reporting to the Team Leader Biosecurity.

About you
You will be a highly motivated, conscientious, and organised leader capable of coordinating a diverse range of tasks on a daily basis and communicating with local stakeholders. You will be passionate about natural resource management and biosecurity with a strong knowledge of the unique ecosystem present on Lord Howe Island. You have a demonstrated knowledge of biosecurity methodologies and you are familiar with the prescriptions of the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015. Further to this, you are willing to work shifts over a 7-day rotating roster.
Essential requirements
- Demonstrated experience or qualification in natural resource management and/or biosecurity.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in remote areas.
- Ability to use computers for information management.
