Expression of interest - Field Supervisor Bush Regeneration & Weed Eradication
The Lord Howe Island Board (LHIB) Environment team is seeking expressions of interest for an experienced full-time Field Supervisor Bush Regeneration & Weed Eradication for up to six months from 13 January 2025.
Primary purpose of the role
Provide leadership to teams undertaking the control and eradication of priority environmental weeds on ground, supervise the work and assist in the training of field staff and volunteers, and liaise and assist contractors. You will ensure that weed search priorities are undertaken safely and efficiently, applying best practice bush regeneration and weed control methods as per the relevant strategies.
Key Accountabilities
- In conjunction with the Team Leader, Flora and Weeds, plan for and review the effectiveness of weed control and eradication priorities.
- In conjunction with the Team Leader, Flora and Weeds, plan and review weed search priorities (in field and with desktop applications).
- Carry out the control and eradication of priority environmental weeds.
- Supervise field staff and volunteers and assist and liaise with contractors in implementing the Board’s weed eradication and control programs to achieve a high standard of work using safe, cost efficient and effective methods.
- Provide leadership and facilitate training of field staff in best practice weed control techniques instilling a culture of weed eradication, bush regeneration and environmental protection.
- Ability to supervise field teams in remote locations and maintain high safety standards (including rope and non-rope access in elevated terrain).
- Maintain team capacity to operate and accurately collect weed eradication data using hand held devices (with Fulcrum, GPS), for uploading into the LHI Weeds Database and ArcGIS.
- Skilled in the identification of both native and introduced flora on Lord Howe Island and able to assist field staff in the development of their plant identification skills.
- Perform administrative tasks using common computer software, including ordering, issuing and maintaining materials and equipment required for weed management work.
- Assist in the planning and undertaking of helicopter operations (both winching and lance spraying programs), and be able to supervise field teams during such programs.
- Assist with biosecurity incursions, revegetation and threatened species recovery and participate in emergency response and incident management as directed.

The position holder will be required to meet the requirements of a pre-employment medical with a clearance to undertake the fitness test to a moderate level, and task based physical assessment in order to undertake this role.
