Helicopter Lance Operations - Temporary Track Closures & ‘No Drone Zone’

A helicopter lance operation is scheduled to commence next week, pending suitable weather conditions.

The helicopter will target priority weed species on hard to access cliff lines between 6:30am - 5:00pm for an estimated period of 7-10 operational days

Additional notification will be provided when transit of the helicopter has been confirmed.

This project is funded by the NSW Government Saving our Species conservation program.

Track closures
Track closures are required to ensure safety of the public during helicopter lance spot spraying operations. To minimise impact to track users, only affected tracks will be closed whilst the helicopter is operating in their vicinity.

The location of daily operations is dictated by various factors, including seabird activity, weed density, and wind direction, with work scheduled according to the conditions of each day. Unfortunately, this makes it difficult to provide advance notification of accurate dates and times of track closures.

Track monitoring staff will walk tracks ahead of closures to ensure no members of the public are present during operations. Signage will be in place and staff will be stationed at track heads during closures to advise the public of access restrictions.

For up to date information on track closures during operational days, please contact the Administration Office on 02 6563 2066.

No Drone Zone
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has rules in place for drone usage to ensure safe flying practices around aircraft.

As a safety measure for helicopter operations, a ‘No Drone Zone’ within a 5.5km of the LHI Aerodrome will be in place whilst helicopter operations are underway.

Please refer to the below map of the ‘No Drone Zone.' Drones present a hazard to aircraft and penalties apply to the use of drones in this area during helicopter operations.

Please contact Nicola Fuller (02 6563 2066 ext 42; [email protected]) with any enquiries.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation while this important work is undertaken.
