Neds Beach shed update

Neds Beach shed and the area behind it will remain closed and inaccessible due to public safety concerns. In addition, the grassed area directly in-front of the shed will also be cordoned off.

Recent inspections and a risk assessment confirmed the calcarenite/sandstone rock wall behind the shed is unstable and poses safety risks in its current state.

Hydraulic splitting works will be required to reduce safety risks and any potential further landslide activity. These works will clear segments of rock in small segments that can be easily cleaned up and reduce likelihood of damage to the shed below.

A plan is in place to complete the following in preparation for the hydraulic splitting works and includes:

  • Review of Environmental Factors
  • Preparation of blast management plans and associated safety procedures
  • Approval for works
  • Building a protective wall behind the shed using sandbags
  • Organising equipment shipping and on Island storage.

The hydraulic splitting works are scheduled to commence at the end of February 2025 once the planning tasks are complete and the required equipment has been shipped to the Island. The shed will remain closed until this time.

LHIB asks the community and visitors to continue to keep away from the roped off area and take extreme caution.

Fish food will continue to be available from Diamonds, and temporary arrangements are being made to relocate the Neds Beach equipment hire business.
